In the history of financial crimes perpetrated against the public in this country, it is fair to say the mis-selling of PPI policies is up there with the best of them.
Of course, it may not technically be a crime, but frankly the banks have systematically tricked thousands of people over the years into buying cover that would never have covered them. My bank tried with me a couple of times but, thankfully, being a professional cynic stopped me.
