Economists predict UK to face worst recession of G7

The UK is anticipated to have one of the worst recessions and weakest recoveries in the G7, according to a poll of economists from the Financial Times.

Over four-fifths of the 101 respondents to the FT's annual poll of UK-based economists said the nation will lag its peers in 2023, as its GDP is expected to continue shrinking. Other findings from the survey, which was conducted between 14 December and 21 December, included 67% of the economists saying they believe inflation will remain above target longer in the UK than in peer countries and 63% saying they thought the Bank of England will not cut rates in 2023.
